Board Positions

  • The President shall serve as the chief executive officer of the organization, shall preside at all meetings of the organization, and shall prepare the agenda for meetings consistent with member agenda items. The President shall be the official spokesperson of the organization, representing the policies, views, and opinions of the organization in its relations with the campus and community at large. The President shall appoint all committees and committee chairs. The President shall be an ex officio member of all committees. The President shall have such further powers and duties as may be prescribed by the organization. In any event the Presidential office becomes vacant, there shall be an immediate election to decide succession.
  • The Vice President (V.P.) duties shall include assisting with coordinating the logistics of all events as needed, collaborates with all board members for all events and programs as needed based on the events being scheduled by the Board. This role also assists to plan/promote social events as needed. The V.P. will work with the President to ensure all decisions are made with the best outcome for the board. All decisions must be approved by the President and/or the President and V.P. Additionally the V.P. shall be responsible for maintaining a current membership roster, tracking membership dues, communicating with the Finance Officer any membership discrepancies,  maintaining professional relationships with all members including notifying members of any necessary news. Further the Vice President shall be responsible for filling in for the President in the case the President is unable to participate, and the ability to make decisions if the President is unable to do so.
  • The Director of Marketing shall be responsible for designing and implementing the marketing plan, designing, and disseminating publications for events, and managing all digital media efforts. The Marketing Director is also responsible for working with various board members as needed to ensure corporate sponsors are adequately represented in marketing materials. Responsibilities include: the creation of marketing materials, flyers, and promotional items. The Marketing Director will also forward all materials to the Communications Director for distribution to all members via all relevant social media outlets, including internal communications, Facebook, Instagram, Campus Groups, LinkedIn, and the http://www.BGWN.org website. All decisions must be approved by the President and/or the President and V.P.
  • The Director of Finance shall handle all financial affairs and budgeting of the organization, maintain all necessary accounting records, and prepare monthly financial reports for membership. The Finance Director shall collect and deposit all dues and fees as well as maintain accounts in the organization’s name, requiring signatures of both the President and Vice President for authorized disbursements. The Finance Director is also responsible for maintaining a budget throughout the academic year and managing the fundraising efforts of the organization. Fundraising efforts include, but are not limited to auctions, raffles or fundraising events partnering with local businesses. It is up to the entire board to create a strategy of how to develop corporate relations with companies in Houston, and it is up to the Finance Director and board to execute that strategy. All decisions must be approved by the President and/or the President and V.P.
  • The Director of Events will work closely with other officers to plan and execute workshops, speaking events, and other professional events for the organization. The Events Director should convene committees as needed and recruit help from the other officers and the general membership as needed and delegate tasks to accomplish all that is necessary.
  • The Director of Mentorship will be primarily in charge of coordinating and running the Mentorship Program. The Mentorship Director will collaborate extensively with the board as needed to ensure the smooth coordination and execution of the Mentorship Program. The Mentorship Director will also manage the protégé and mentor relationships. All decisions must be approved by the President and/or the President and V.P.
  • The Director of Communications shall handle all communication in conjunction with the Marketing Director, including social media posting, drafting, and disseminating newsletters. The Communications Director will continue to manage Board email accounts and set up all new internal communication requirements and aid in the transition from previous Board members to new Board members at the end of the spring semester each year. All communications to be forwarded to general body members (excluding event-specific member lists to be handled by the main contact for that specific event) will be sent to the Communications Director for review/corrections first, before being forwarded to final general body recipients. All decisions must be approved by the President and/or the President and V.P.
  • The Director of Strategic Partnerships shall be responsible for community outreach to local and national organizations with a shared interest in promoting women in business. Additionally, Strategic Partnerships Director shall collaborate with other board members and university resources as necessary to cultivate and leverage relationships with non-profit and corporate organizations to implement events for BGWN members.
